Finally a meeting at work

Well I managed to get a meeting with both our MD and my Director today.
We sat down and started to discuss things a bit. They then handed me a letter which stated that they do intend to support me but can’t adhere to my timeframe.
I didn’t have a chance to read it all there, but we chatted for a while.
They have made contact with my counsellor and are waiting to meet her in a couple of weeks to consider her for transition support.
They talked a lot about the need for more time and their surprise etc.
I explained that it is also difficult for me and that if we do put the time in now we can easily meet my time frame.
They agreed to meet again when I get back from my week away.
When I got home I read the letter and was disappointed that the time they proposed to make a decision on a plan was September 7th and then move from there. It goes on to say they will discuss it at the board meeting on August 5th and then because of holidays they have to wait until September 7th to make a decision and agree a time frame.
I am not comfortable with that at all.
It would mean this is likely to go on until November. So I have written a response saying that I appreciate their support and efforts but can’t see any reason why they feel they need to wait until September to make a decision.
I feel they are buying time and if left to them this thing will go at a snail’s pace.
I have suggested after that board meeting we take the bull by the horns (not those words) and make this happen within the following 7 weeks in line with my timing plan.
I also state that I intend unless a very good reason can be given to meet my timing plan.
I will give them this tomorrow before I go away for a week’s holiday.
So I guess in summary a step forward and a step backwards!
In other news I have packed 90 % of my stuff for next week in Norfolk.
I am really looking forward to a whole week as me. The only thing I am not looking forward to is not being able to wear a swimming costume on the beach. Swimming trunk shorts will feel really strange. So apart from the beach bit I will be me for the whole week. Yaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
xx

Sounds at least a bit more hopeful, but the delays don't sound reasonable. What would you do about that two weeks off you already have booked? And I can't imagine what they would do with all that extra time. Really, people, it's not that big a deal (well, except to the transitioner). Get over yourselves!

Glad you will have a week to be you. Not to mention being at the seaside. I wore my bikini once before I had surgery and tucked pretty well, but it was still a bit bulgy, I must admit. Good thing it was in a hotel pool when no one else was around!

And just what do they mean by, "they will reach a decision"

What is to decide? They have already stated that they will support you. They now allready have nearly 2 months to figure things out, which is more than enough time.

Lets face it, other that your name change and how you present yourself, you are still the same person with the same skill sets.

I hope you enjoy your week away. I am sure you will make the most of your time to be yourself. Only I bet you won't want the week to end!

In this game there are people you ask, and people you tell. In other words, people who have a right to have some influence over your path, and people who don't.
I'm sure I don't have to remind you that as a TS under medical supervision who's informed her employer your arse is now covered by the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act for non-Brits), and anything to do with your TS status is now off the table, by law they can't touch it. So they are firmly in the group "People you tell".

Enjoy your holiday!

Dear Lisa
I hope you have a lovely well deserved holiday.
When you come back you are going to feel like a new woman!

You are clearly a valuable well liked member of staff. As frustrating the possible delay may be perhaps they just need some time to fully digest your news & want to respond correctly.

Happy Holidays

Hopefully your therapist will be able to address any issues they might hold them back on this. It is good to know that you are covered by the DDA as Jenny said. Maybe you could arrange a lunch as Lisa with the directors after holiday and before you go back to work, just an crazy idea, if they meet Lisa they might see how happier you are. Just a crazy idea.

Have a great Holiday!
