I have spent a lot of today at University. As I am doing this course on a part time basis it involves a few Saturdays in addition to Monday nights.
Today most of the time was spent practicing counselling sessions. We alternated between counsellor, client and observer.
On Monday we have a practical test which will form a large percentage of our mark for this module. The time today helped prepare us for that. I found it really useful in helping put into practice some of the skills we have learned so far.
Our tutor is a lovely gentleman who is retiring at the end of our course in 2 weeks. Over lunch today we had a little chat and he said he was really pleased to have me on the course. If fact he said it was a privilege for him to meet someone who is living there life and being true to themselves. He said that in his opinion it has changed the dynamic of our group and enabled many people to be more open and comfortable with themselves, as they had seen me being open and genuine.
I felt like giving him a hug. I think I may do on the last day!
I am really lucky with the group; they have made it quite easy for me to be myself.
I have just got off the phone from telling the only member of my wife’s family that didn’t know what was going on. He took it well and wished us both well. :- )
Tomorrow is Fathers day here. I used to worry about if I should still celebrate this or not but I am and always will be my children’s father, only with a difference. As such I am going to enjoy tomorrow and have been promised poached egg on toast by my son, who fancies himself as a chef!
I think the girls have been making me a card and I saw my wife and all the kids whispering earlier on so I think I may have a surprise!
Not that I am going to have my feet up tomorrow though as I am planning on wallpapering our conservatory.

What, don't you like the sun coming through the glass?
A little maturity in a class can change the whole dynamic of the group for the better.
Hope you have a great loving parent day.

Nothing like a bunch of counselling students -- and a good instructor -- to create a good environment in which to be oneself. Glad you are having such a great experience there!
And enjoy your Father's Day breakfast and whatever else your family has planned.

Yes, Lisa, by all means, enjoy the day. I'm visiting my son and ex and I'm the one being asked to make breakfast. And that's the least of the reasons why my my father's day is sucking.
With hugs and envy,
Dana
Enjoy the day, and the eggs :)
And thanks for reminding me that I have to call my dad! (I got him House of Cards on DVD but he's not going to get that until we arrive for a visit).

It sounds like the dynamic has been fabulous at your course, your maturity and openness for them, and acceptance from all participants for you; wonderful!
As far as fathers' day, we all need to take everyday as it comes and appreciate it, no matter what our circumstance. In our situation, all the more. Happy Dad's day Lisa, and to all of us who have 'fathered' and loved our kids along the way.
Damn, Caroline beat me to it with the wallpapering the conservatory joke!
Fathers day brings mixed feelings here. My contemporaries are all parents with young families by now but I'm not, in part because of my wife's understandable apprehension towards a future in which her children have a TG parent.
Having met your family I know how much you care about them and will be there for them. I hope your son's poached egg turned out just right!
What a nice thing for your tutor to say, Lisa! I hope you enjoyed your special day with your children.

Dear Lisa
Its so lovely to see your new life florishing & the aceptance you are rightly receiving from your class mates.
So ordinary yet so life affirming.
I hope you had a wonderful day with your family celebrating being such a special kind hearted parent.

Thinking about it I should have titled this blog "Correctly gendered while dressed in Drag"
In fact I may see if I can change the title. :- )
Thanks for your comments. It was a nice feeling I must say.
